You all know I'm a fan. Who else loves Dark Shadows?! (And no, I'm not talking about that Tim Burton abomination!)

I really like the 1993? mini series. Like... ALOT. I watch it often. The others are fun sometimes too. But I have also read a few of the books aloud to my hubby and they are also fun.

I began watching Dark Shadows before Barnabas was released from his coffin by Willie Loomis. All the kids in my neighborhood ran home from school and planted themselves in front of the TV to watch Dark Shadows before going out to play. Lara Parker (Angelique) was my second popular culture crush, after Julie Newmar from (not Batman!) My Living Doll, a sitcom in which she played a robot named Rhoda. She played The Catwoman a few years later.

My husband has often commented how he likes the earlier part of the series, now called 'The Beginning' for the dvd sets. It's black and white, moody, gothic, and it does still have ghosts and the phoenix and supernatural well to do already before Barnabas. The 1897 storyline is my favorite. Yes, all my vampire love but I'm a Quentin girl! My Living Doll is on Amazon Prime now! I love the 66 Batman too though. Perfection! I've been going collection by collection reviewing Dark Shadows but I don't think they are all on Horror Addicts, some may still be on my blog yet. I've kind of stalled now that I'm up to the Levithan plot. :/ ithinkthereforeireview.blogspot.com/search/label/Dark%20ShadowsIt was my mom who got me into it back when it used to rerun on PBS. My dad and I used to watch Blake's 7 when it came on the local station, then too. That needs some proper DVD ugrades, for sure! I love how the Dark Shadows DVDS have warnings that they look terrible, hehe.

Before the Smothers Brothers gained fame and notoriety for their comedy variety hour in the second half of the sixties, they had a one-season sitcom in which Tommy was Dickie's inept guardian angel. I've found one episode on YouTube, but wouldn't mind getting the whole run. The history of television is littered with forgotten gems.

I've been DVRing It's A Living now that it is airing on Antenna TV. That isn't on DVD at all. Unacceptable!
Dark Shadows I hear now is also on Tubi TV, free with ads. I have the collections sets and splurged for the giant complete box, but in a pinch I still just let it marathon on Amazon.
It's fascinating to see all the old television stuff available and not available thanks to rights issues or lost episodes. The way some are in the public domain and get poor video releases while others bounce back and forth between the networks or streaming services. A lot fall through the cracks.
